PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―

A local brewery is seeing how far it can stretch its energy and its resources. CBS 3's Liz Keptner took a tour.

Tom Kehoe of Yards Brewing Company in Philly doesn't look like a hippie.

"I got a few hippie employees, which is good!" Kehoe laughs.

But he wants his beer to be as green as it can be.

Before Yards moved into its new location five months ago, they did everything they could to make sure it was environmentally friendly.

"We actually used recycled concrete underneath the base of the floor," said Kehoe. "We made considerations that whatever we're going to do, let's make sure we do something environmentally correct."

Yards is a 100 percent wind-powered facility.

It also uses Pedal Co-Op, a group that collects the glass and cardboard at the Yards twice a week, loads it onto bikes, then takes it to be recycled. That means no diesel!

"I've gotten well over 300 pounds on a load before," said Jason Rivera of Pedal Co-Op. "And this one, this one's probably up there. It's probably around two ... 250.

But Yards' eco-friendly solution to recycling doesn't stop there. Spent grain gets picked up each week by a Montgomery County farmer, who then uses to feed his cattle.

Tom Kehoe plans more green ideas in the future.

"It was nothing more than making the decision and making the commitment. You know, once you commit to it, you're finding ways to make it work for you. And I think that's the hardest part, just committing," said Kehoe.

Cheers to that.
